Who Are We?
(information for this article provided by Andrea Ballard, Alice Truan & Marcia Allen)

The Northwest Legal Training Professionals (formerly known as the Seattle Legal Trainers) was co-founded in 2000 by then legal trainers Marcia Allen, Alice Truan, Alice Meleney and Andrea Ballard.

The Vision

The vision for the group was to provide a platform for legal computer trainers, help desk and computer support professionals in Seattle.

Humble Beginnings

It started around 1999-2000 with a series of emails between Marcia Allen, Alice Truan, Alice Meleney and Andrea Ballard. Finally, the group put together their first informal meeting on July 25, 2000 at Garvey, Shubert & Barer. The email was from Alice Meleney and was sent to Esther Sugai, Cheri Galvin and Marcia Allen. By October, Andrea Ballard was included in the group and they organized the first official meeting of the Seattle Legal Trainers to take place. Specifics of that official meeting are below:

Perkins Coie hosted the January 11, 2001 meeting and Honora Wade was the presenter.  The topic was "New developments in training: e-learning, web-based training, corporate universities, portals.etc".  Preston Gates hosted the February 8, 2001 meeting and Keith Harrington was the presenter.  The topic was: "New hire training: The amount of time which is devoted to the training of a new employee, how it is structured, what sort of follow up exists".

From there, a group of dedicated individuals from various law firms in Seattle continued to meet and assisted the core group with the further develop-ment and growth of the Seattle Legal Trainers group.

Currently, the NWLTP's membership is around 60 members, many of whom attend on a regular basis. The group meets to network and share all types of information, discuss training and technology as it pertains to the group members, and review training techniques and technology products and services.

Most recently, a group of co-chairs from the past three years met to discuss restructuring the group. The first order of business - changing the name from Seattle Legal Trainers to Northwest Legal Training Professionals.

The Focus

NWLTP is focused specifically on the professional needs of legal computer trainers; however, other information systems, computer support professionals and vendors who support law firms are welcomed to join or attend the general bi-monthly meetings.

Meeting Dates & Times

The group meets the second Thursday of every odd month.  Additionally, in December we will host a group holiday party.  See the Calendar of Events page for specific meeting times and dates.
